For this project, I was expected to create a fictional event that would take place, and design a cohesive system which included everything from a logo, a pattern for the venue, kiosks, icons, a pamphlet, etc. I chose to make my event a two-day Electronic Music Festival that promotes mental health awareness. The name of my event is ASCENDING. I chose the word ascending because it has a very positive connotation to it, the definition of ascending means to rise, or to move up to a higher level. Since my event is focusing on the promotion of mental health, I wanted everything about the event to be positive, hopeful, and have care-free and colorful vibes in order to promote those feelings in the people attending the event. This two-day event would include performances from artists in the EDM community, however it would also include a separate stage for Mental Health public speakers to come and inform the attendees, motivate them, and teach them some techniques or tools on how to cope with mental illness or how to properly help a loved one who is suffering. The kiosks would also not only serve to inform attendees on different celebrities who also suffer from mental illness in order to promote awareness, they would also serve as different areas in the event where attendees can take different short classes with therapists or coaches to learn about the different resources available or learn more techniques on how to cope.

I started my working process by looking up inspiration for my event and logotype design, researching existing events, creating word lists, and hand sketching different possibilities. After having my professor and colleagues critique my work, I then went on to upload the designs that worked the best in digital format. I wanted to be very experimental with my logotype design so that I could also use it as a pattern. I chose bright colors to reinforce the positive vibe that I wanted to exude through my project. I also stuck with blue, pink, and purple as those are the colors mainly associated with mental health and mental health awareness. I chose the black color as my background color for everything to really contrast the other colors and give a neon effect common in electronic music festivals. The icons I created work with my system being that they use the same color palette and have a futuristic look with sharp edges to them. The final deliverables submitted for this project included 11 x 17 branding pages, a 3D cut out example of my logotype (plexiglass), a map for the event, a 3D cut out small scale example of a kiosk design (plexiglass), a 3D material sample with icons (plexiglass), and a small scaled down 3D example of the venue entryway (plexiglass and crescent board).
