The goal of the Grow a Garden Anywhere! campaign is to inspire people to grow their own food and to show them that it is not necessary to have a big yard or large plot of land to do so; growing your own garden can be very easy and can literally be done in the smallest of spaces! I used a top hat as the “container” for my “potted vegetable plant” to give it a fun and whimsical spin in showing that you don’t even need to have a pot, you can use almost anything you have on hand to grow. I feel the top hat also gives the design a feeling of “magic” since top hats can sometimes be associated with that, to inspire people to use their imagination. The app is designed to help get people excited about their garden, serve as a tool to help them get started, track progress, or learn how to be a pro gardener and make healthy recipes with their home grown organic produce. The promotional items are designed to be fun, lighthearted, and deliver the message of the campaign in a clear and direct way.
I started my working process with a mood board and researched existing images and campaigns related to this topic for inspiration. I was inspired to use bright colors for my design being that vegetables and fruits are always so bright, but also because I wanted to influence the feelings of happiness and fun in the audience. I combined two different existing icons into one new one to create the final icon for the campaign. I created many different hand sketches and digital explorations for the app screen designs before choosing a final solution as well. The final campaign deliverables included a campaign icon, screen designs for a responsive app, and promotional items including stickers, buttons, and a shirt design.
